I went to Casa La Femme this weekend and let me tell you it was beyond fun. The atmosphere was cool calm and collected. The decor was amazing and beautiful.
Our table was next to the DJ and normally I would have not liked this because it is impossible to talk to anyone/hear anything but loud annoying music. That was not the case here it was perfect, there were no blaring speakers or obnoxious music playing. The DJ even charged my cell phone for me!
The entertainment was great. The belly dancers were hot as hell! They came around to everyone’s table to make sure they got a good show and their costumes were gorgeous! I loved it. One of my friends is an “experienced” belly dancer and by experienced I mean he is Egyptian and claims belly dancing is in his blood. Either way the dancers were quite obliging to the audience participation.
Now on to the most important part, the food! We opted for the pre-fixe menu since there were so many of us we wanted to taste a bit of everything. The menu had a good variety of options that all sounded super yum. Myself and a few others are vegetarian so we could only do vegetable or fish but there was still enough for us to choose from. The only issue I really had were the portions. Once everyone’s food came it was difficult for me to see everyone else’s dishes and honestly I wasn’t paying too much attention but as for my food was concerned the portions were quite small. The first course was hummus, babagonoush, fuul medames with pita of which portions were fine for the table and extremely yummy.
When I got my second course there were only 2 pieces of octopus on the plate with some greens, they tasted great but the taste was over shadowed by the disappointment of there being only 2 pieces which I did share with some of the table. We each got about a bite to try. My mousaka was a smallish 3 layers of eggplant, cheese and vegetables. Again the food tasted amazing but when trying to eat a meal even without sharing for a $55 pre-fixe menu I would assume one could expect at least a full plate of one of the courses.
I would go back again but I won’t get the pre-fixe it just doesn’t seem worth it. It is a real shame too because everything else seemed to be so spot on. The decor, the drinks, the staff (our waiter was beyond awesome) the menu, music, even the restroom set up and decor was beautiful but the portions really disappointed me. Why go that far to make everything else so perfectly detailed and forget that you are a restaurant and people should be coming to your place for food. It makes me wonder about the establishment if the food isn’t their main concern.
If you look at their A La Carte menu the same grilled octopus I had is almost $14 for 2 pieces of octopus, seriously? The mousaka is almost $20 for 1 three piece tower of small eggplant rounds? That doesn’t really seem fair to the customer even if everything else is amazing. I hope that the a la carte menu offers larger portions because if not than I would be extremely disappointed. I would hate to never go there again because of the food when everything else about the place is so great.
