Is Fitbit For Me

Fitbit Activity Tracker

Fitbit Activity Tracker

My family has decided to have our own personal Biggest Loser Challenge which I am certainly participating in. The winner will receive $600 at the end of our 6 month challenge. I have been doing what I can, admittedly not enough as per usual, to get on track and beat some of my beloved family members. I recently noticed one of my aunts and uncles with Fitbit band and realized I have been seeing this for a while unknowingly. Now I see it everywhere and wonder if it is a better system of tracking than my phone.
I decided to do some research on Fitbit wristband I’ve been seeing:

-Accurately track all-day stats like steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, stairs climbed, and active minutes
-See daily stats, time of day, and exercise mode with a bright OLED display
-Monitor your sleep automatically and wake with a silent alarm
-Get call notifications right on your wrist
-Access real-time run stats like time, distance, and pace to stay on track
-Sync stats wirelessly and automatically to your computer and over 120 leading smartphones

This particular one has gotten some amazing reviews but I can’t help but wonder if it is the new trend in tracking. Should I spend $100 and change on it or wait to see what the next trend is?
I really do like the fact that the bracelet can be much more accurate than keeping your phone on you all day which is sometimes as impossible as it is annoying. That being said is a cheap old pedometer the way to go and I can just enter that information in to my various apps or should I suck it up, spend the money and just see how it goes?

Right now we live in Fredericksburg VA but hope to soon be able to move to Cocoa FL to closer to family. Itworks Global was founded in 2001 and became completely debt free in 2004! We have been featured in Forbes fastest growing MLMs and we have also been in Success From Home Magazine. Since joining this company, I have grown into the person I knew I was always meant to be. That’s exactly what I have been doing and I have already started seeing it come true with myself and many many others!

Striiv The Most Fun Pedometer Ever

Striiv Smart Pedometer was just recently introduced to me by one of my besties. I have used pedometers before or Apps for tracking activity/health and after a while I was just plain bored. I don’t have the time or patience to do all of that and get disappointed when I don’t see any success.
Striiv is genius because you are given attainable challenges to reach during the day. Every challenge you complete gives you points, positive reinforcement and then prizes of sorts. I am currently addicted which is kind of really great. The incentive program really does almost force you to keep active because the more challenges you win the more likely you are to win something. So far I have gotten Amazon.com MP3 downloads and 50% off of JewelMint and I have only been using this App for 2 days. I probably look like an idiot at the office because I am standing and stomping around all day but I don’t care anything to keep me more active then I have currently been is find by me.
You can also purchase Striiv Play Wireless Smart Pedometer if you don’t want to carry your phone around everywhere. I actually downloaded this App a week earlier but I kept forgetting to walk around with my phone and sometimes I really have nowhere to put it. The Striiv Play Wireless Smart Pedometer is a great more convenient way to track your activity without needing your phone.
The only thing I don’t love about Striiv at the moment is it is only iPhone or Apple compatible which is kind of sad because I cannot share the fun with all of my friends. I have a few friends on there now. I get so pumped when I see they have taken more steps than I have. What can a girl do but go out of her way to beat her friends in steps.
You can get a Striiv of your very own either at Amazon.com or Best Buy

The Daily Burn

The Daily Burn

The Daily Burn

I know I have mentioned before how much I love my Roku but one of my favorite channels is The Daily Burn. I love that you get a 30 day free trial for 1 but that the monthly cost is only $9.99 for unlimited workout videos of any and all kinds you could ever imagine! My favorite classes are obviously yoga but I have found some boot camp and even some kick boxing videos that I really like and never thought I would. Another awesome series The Daily Burn has is their version of Zumba that offers the widest variety of dance classes ever! I was sweating up a storm after one of the 15 minute club videos! It was great!  The work out did just as much as an hour class would have, I didn’t feel lazy or cheated.  I wanted to make the most out of the 15 minutes I did have.
The Daily Burn allows you to choose work outs that are specific to your tastes as well as schedule. If you only have 15 minutes to work out now you really have no excuse not to. Even a 15 minute workout with The Daily Burn really packs a punch. The trainers vary from all types of backgrounds in fitness, education, training, personality and workout styles. I like this because it feels like you are never in the same class twice.
Besides not having an excuse for time now you have no reason to be without a location. You can download the app on your phone, tablet, computer, laptop, mp3 player you name it! You can take a workout with you every where you go like work, vacation, the park, school….NO EXCUSES! This virtually, pardon the pun, eliminates any excuse you could ever have not to work out other than just plain not wanting to doing it.
I am definitely one for the I have no time or place excuse but now The Daily Burn has made a liar out of me which is some what disappointing/encouraging. If you can’t make this work than you really just don’t want to get into shape. You really have to be ready and more importantly you really have to be willing to put in the work other wise there is no point.

My New Elliptical

In my race to be skinny (a battle I have been losing for the past 5 years….oh 31 years) I purchased myself a new elliptical in hopes of  jump starting that New Years resolution that I was sooo into and got much less into by about January 5th.  This sure does happen every year doesn’t it?  I have the My Fitness Pal App,subscribe to The Daily Burn, healthy recipes galore, I try all of the little tips I read about burning more calories daily however the one big, most important thing that will inevitably help me is regularly working out, and that is the one thing I can’t seem (a.k.a. don’t want) to find time for.  Yes, I am aware it is an excuse.  I know what I have to do and I just don’t do it.  I have no real right to complain and can make all the excuses in the world but I know what will work and I am just not doing it.  I am sure this super fab new elliptical I just purchased will slowly but surely collect dust in my living room but I will have it.  This elliptical will stare me in the face every time my lazy behind sits on the couch with my glass of wine and tub of ice cream laughing judgmentally at me saying you could be on me getting your sweat on but no please relax those over weight appendages of yours on the couch and watch all the Real Housewives your mind can handle before it turns into mush.
I think the most important part of this particular piece exercise equipment is that I spend like 4 hours putting that stupid thing together all by myself! I sure as hell am going to use it! Right?  I must however let whom ever writes/designs directions for these things know they need to be fired! It was like attempting to decipher hieroglyphs. Thank goodness I am excellent at looking at pictures because those directions were awful. I need like 1st grade reading level instructions for that kind of thing with pictures and arrows.
The first time I used the elliptical my super round, extra jiggly, caboose lasted about 10 minutes before I wanted to die! I remember now why I love yoga so much, less bouncing and more stretching. Either way I have been slowly working my way back to the hour I used to be able to do with ease. I am kind of really ashamed of myself for not being able to stay on there longer but you have to start somewhere right? Either way I am doing what I must to get sexy by whenever!
I appreciate that the elliptical fits perfectly between my chair and wall. My kitty isn’t happy that his bed had to be moved but he will get over it eventually I hope. The only thing I don’t love about my new elliptical is the handles. They kind of hit me when I am pulling back on them. I feel like they should be facing the other way (again this could be my mis-interpretation of the directions) but I am not even going to attempt to take them off and put them back now.  Other than that my little elliptical is in the process of putting me back to rights! I am hoping sooner rather than later but that is really up to me.  I have to get into my exercise mode which I have lost somewhere in between my larger pant sizes and my desire for long afternoon naps.

My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal

My Fitness Pal

Everyone I know has been trying to stick with their New Years Resolution and the thing I keep hearing from everyone is My Fitness Pal is the way to go. I have tried a million different diets, Weight Watchers, gym classes, trainers, calorie counting, cleanses, you name it. Now I admit dedication and motivation is my problem. I have no real excuse but after spending money on all of these other things it is nice to see something that is free and easy to use.
All you have to do is download the free App  or use it online and start entering in your information and goals. Then you are given your calorie allotment for the day according to your height, weight and goals you want to reach. Once you are set up you can even link to your Facebook account. Then start entering in your food for the day. What I appreciated was that there was an endless amount of options for food so when you eat out the odds that your meal can be found and accurate is extremely likely. The program is beyond user friendly, anyone can get the hang of it.   When you do things like work out you get updates on how much weight you would lose if you did that same activity for the next certain amount of weeks, for example I did a 15 minute Zumba work out (as I was pressed for time) and once I entered it in to My Fitness Pal I received an update saying if  I did that for the next 5 weeks I would reach a particular weight.
I am actually having fun with My Fitness Pal. I feel I can be more accurate than I ever was with Weight Watchers or counting on my own. I can see the calories I’ve used after each meal, the amount left, how many achievements I have made and how much closer to reaching my goal I am. There are graphs of your calorie breakdowns by carbs, fat and protein, nutrient details, your progress, you can set reminders, find your friends that are using My Fitness Pal for support and be interactive.
I feel like I am back on track honestly, the slow track but it is still a track. I have been slacking here and there as per my usual routine but I am really loving this app. It makes a difference that most people I know are using it which is encouraging. You can do group weight loss goals using the app in the office or even get competitive with friends and family if that helps.
My Fitness Pal relieves your guilt but doesn’t lie to you. You are held accountable for your actions and can see the consequences.  There is nothing but encouragement and all free of charge. You literally get out of it what you put in and that is better than any meal plan, trainer or gym you spend money, time and sanity on.
Have you tried MyFitnessPal.com? Let me know how you liked or didn’t like it?

Keep Your Core Tight This Winter

Keep Your Core Tight This Winter

Keep Your Core Tight This Winter

Fall is here which means Winter is fast approaching and we all know what happens in the winter….WEIGHT!!! We can all make excuses as to why we can’t work out or make it to the gym or whatever but let’s be honest….there are no good excuses. The invention of Pinterest has made it next to impossible to have any excuse not to work out so I have decided to compile all of the in home and quick workouts I can find to help us all stay in shape this Winter so we can continue to be sexy through until Summer.
I found this Plank Variations workout which peeked my interest because 1. Planks always ruin my day when working out because I see how out of shape my core is and 2. You don’t need anything but the floor and you to get the most out of planks. The above workout has videos and options for planks you can use to make the most out of your core. I have most definitely been slacking so now that I have found these I really have less of an excuse and now so do you!!

WWHD?

WWHD?

WWHD?

In the on going battle between cellulite and I (clearly cellulite is the victor 9 times out of 10) I have developed a little mantra that seems to be working…well at least for the past two days. I generally abuse myself by working out while watching supremely skinny and super hot people to depress myself into working out longer. As of late when I feel a snacking sesh or “fat” behavior about to be take me over I say to myself  WWHD? What Would A Hottie Do? A hottie wouldn’t eat those fries, That hottie wouldn’t do that, A hottie will not snack in between meals because they are bored, A hottie would work out just 5 more minutes to burn those extra calories.
This is the one time in my life I would like to give thanks to the superficial people of the world for setting the standard to what is considered beautiful. Now, I’m not saying skinny is the ultimate but in shape and healthy is and if I can use my selfconsiousness to help me avoid doing what I know is wrong and stick to my diet I really don’t see anything wrong with it. You can envision your fave fitness guru sitting next to you as you are about to put that cookie in your mouth. You know what they would say. Since Monday everytime I want to cheat or workout a little less I immediatly say to myself WWHD? and imagine Johnny Depp watching me from across the room, would I nibble on that needless chip? If Coco Chanel were here she would trade me that chip for a ciggy! So maybe this is how the ultra skinny or in shape maintain. They put the fear of fat in themselves and eventually avoid the cheating all together. I know every regime says not to deny yourself or it is ok to indulge once in a while but in reality do you ever see the ultra chic indulging in anything besides drinkies? No! Do you see the super skinny outside of some photo shoot or PR stunt indulging in crap food? NO! So maybe they have the right idea. I’m not advocating starving yourself or never indulging but keep in mind WWHD? If you want to indulge in something that you have had a million times or is readily available then remind yourself you can always have it at another time, you don’t need it right now. It can teach you control which is something I have never possessed much of but since using WWHD I have been doing better than usual so I suggest you try it!

Real Talk Weight Loss

Real Talk Weight Loss

Real Talk Weight Loss

I weighed myself after not working out for the past month and not being incredibly diet conscious and have discovered that I have lost 24lbs in the past 4months. I want to say I am excited and can’t believe my hard work has been paying off but I am sort of underwhelmed.
After everyone in my office decided to go on Weight Watchers I jumped on the bandwagon and although it is easy to use and very helpful I really didn’t think it was doing that much for me. I have never had this much weight to lose before but lets say I am really not even at my half way point to be honest.
This is what I will say that although this has been a slow journey I think it was really the little things that I do that have helped me. I usually eat well and exercise semi-regularly but the one thing I wasn’t giving up enough of was drinking. I like a glass of wine or 4 with dinner or when we go out to party SHOTS SHOTS SHOTS! Now that I am 30 I have realized my 21 year old life style doesn’t cut it anymore. So despite my eating well, bike under my desk, elliptical, weights, yoga accessories at home it is really your mind set. I didn’t give up or give in. I did what I could the best way I knew how and when that wasn’t working enough I tried the one thing I was hesitant to try and that was stop drinking. I have limited myself to the weekends only and only if my Weight Watchers points allow. Then I started parking further away from the office building door ( I always take the stairs but I am on the second floor so not taking them for anyone is just plain lazy), I put fresh lemon &/or lime in my water ever day, I drink at minimum 1 cup of green tea a day (and usually it is 4 or 5 cups) and try to remember to take my vitamins on a daily basis & wear heels as often as I can ( I have no science for the heels but I feel I have to work harder to wear them than my flats and they just make me feel pretty). These things seem simple enough or even silly enough but it has done enough to keep me from my most recent plateau.
I’m not going to lie I don’t really notice the weight loss and it wasn’t really that hard which makes it seem a little un real but I have never had to lose this much weight before and after spending the last 4 years in a place where I have to drive every where as opposed to walking all over NYC I guess I had to find little ways to keep me fit and they are working, slowly but surely.
I know most of the world’s new years resolution is to lose weight or get into better shape so my proposal is to just go at your own pace. If it could come off fast everyone would be skinny. We are all different, our bodies work differently so just keep on doing what you are doing. There will be days you want to give up or think about becoming anorexic but remember everything worth having is work! If it wasn’t a struggle you wouldn’t appreciate it when you come to your end result.

Ps. A little tip I read today about getting your 8 glasses of water a day for those of you who aren’t fans of water or who just can’t do it remember that fruits and veggies container alot of water in them. So if you are loading up on your fruit and veggie in take you are probably reaching your water goal.
