The Following

I swoon over the K-Bac just as much as the next woman. I will love him always however K-Bac has some competition on The Following with his arch nemesis James Purefoy who I would like murder me dead any day. I am not sure if it is the ever attractive English accent or the swoony mysteriousness or just the plain old violent bad-assy-ness of the Joe Carroll but I love me some cult-ish!!
The show is awesome enough with those two but I am majorly crushing on Valorie Curry too. Last season she seemed to be a “mousy” preppy little thing that had a penchant for stabbing peeps up and sleeping with the boss but these season she is all punk rock and pierced up which makes me just want to squeeze her until she poops!
If you missed last season get on it and get right into this season. I am loving these great creepy shows that are coming out!! The Following started right when American Horror Story: Coven ended which was sad until I got to see my new #mcm Joe Carroll and #wcw Emma Hill. The only thing I don’t love it it forces me to watch FOX who always has good shows just really crappy news/owners, I try to get past it when they do things like this. Either way I’m loving it and if you aren’t into it yet you need to be or you have missed the buss of life!!!

The Perks of Being A Wall Flower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

I watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower last weekend and immediately fell in love! I cannot wait to read the book. The movie was completely not what I expected. It was sort of Donnie Darko-esque which was interesting. I assumed it was going to be an Indie version of every other high school drama you see. It so very wasn’t and the cast was outstanding which was most of the reason I wanted to see it to be honest.
I hope reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower will be even more awesome than the movie. I am sure many interesting things didn’t make it into the film version. I would detail what exactly those things are in this post but if you haven’t seen the movie or read the book I don’t want to ruin it for you.  I like weird kids in weird movies being weird.  It makes me feel like I wasn’t so abnormal after all.  Let’s be honest we were all weird in one way or another growing up.  I happen to like that.  My mother used to always tell me “I would have killed myself if you were a boring child” I have to agree.  I think people who are afraid to be weird or different definitely missed out on something growing up.  You might not realize it at the time but growing up is when you are supposed to be weird and make mistakes so you can learn and grow.  I won’t lie I am still weird and I still make mistakes but I have always and hopefully will always be weird.  It makes me well me.
The characters in The Perks of Being a Wallflower are definitely unique. I fell in love with all of them for different reasons but as a whole their group dynamic reminded me of my group of friends in high school. Scenes in the story even reminded me of times we had. It was a great movie and I promise this book will definitely be on the list for book club because it just has to be.

Anna Karenina Re-Imagination

I finally saw the 2012 remake of Anna Karenina and I am IN LOVE! First and foremost Keira Knightley can do no wrong in my eyes! She is in my favorite remake of Pride and Prejudice which clinches her awesome status in my book of life.   Jude Law played Karinen perfectly as the epitome of reservation and righteousness in his title and in high society tradition. You can not only see but feel his pain, anguish, and mortification for his situation. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who was in Savages,  is super hot and kind of femininely perfect for the role of Vronsky.  I never really pictured Vronsky that way when I was reading the book but it worked for the strife between Anna and him.  It was an excellent compliment to Anna’s extremely bi-polar highs and lows during their difficult relationship.  Kelly Macdonald who you probably recognize from Boardwalk Empire played Dolly, who is Anna’s sister-in-law but always manages to make the most of every part I have ever seen her in.  Dolly was the ever forgiving and naive victim of her husbands constant infidelity.   Lastly but certainly not least Matthew Macfadyen, played opposite Keira in Pride and Prejudice, was exactly what I pictured when I saw Mr. Darcy in my mind and has been a crush of mine since. I am not sure another actor will ever top his work in that role but it was nice to see him do a 360 and be the philandering Oblonsky, brother of Anna who is a severe hot mess at life and love.
This version was breathtaking that is the only explanation I have for it. The scenery/set was one of the best parts of the entire movie. Most of it took place as if it were in a theater, on a stage, which I thought was lovely. The scenes between the toy train and actual train were imaginative and fit well into the idea of us being toys in this game of life.  Almost every movement was lyrical and dance like which added a bit of  a ballet feel to me. So many ballets are tragic just like Anna Karenina.
My absolute favorite part of the movie was the ball where Anna
and Vronsky dance. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the screen. I am not sure if those were traditional Russian 19th century dances but they were amazingly elegant and quite sensual for that time period. It reminded me of a mix between Moulin Rouge and Romeo and Juliet (1996 version with Claire Danes and Leo Di Caprio). I don’t really have a better way of describing it but I was mesmerized. The exact scene with Kitty (a princess) watching helplessly, almost hyperventilating, while Anna and Vronsky dance as if they are the only two in world, coupled with the actual dance moves, I felt like I was there and could actually see the exact moment when Anna and Vronsky are falling in love.
Not many people can pull off re-imagined versions of classics. It is hard work to make something classic new again without ruining it. The cast was amazing, the scenery was exciting with the bright colors and patterns that are Russian tradition, the music made you long to hear more and of course the actual story made sure that this movie will be my favorite for life. I couldn’t stop watching it this weekend. I have been telling everyone I know they need to see it and see it immediately.

American Horror Story Asylum!

American Horror Story Asylum

American Horror Story Asylum

American Horror Story Season 1 was amazing! I didn’t completely get it at first but the ending was spectacular. I understand this is the kind of show you either love or hate but I sure do love it.
Now that Season 2 has begun I can’t help but hope it is going to be amazingly awesomer than Season 1. I love that Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto and my super crush Evan Peters are back. I could do with out Adam Levine but I get why he is on there, lest we forget Chloe Sevigny who never fails to be odd and creepy in the sexiest ways ever. I also appreciate the addition of Clea Duvall and Sarah Paulson perhaps lesser known actresses but ones I favor.
The description of the new season is soo creepy no one but FX could say it better:
“Set in 1964, American Horror Story: Asylum takes us into a Church-run haven for the criminally insane, ruled with an iron fist by Sister Jude, a nun with a troubled past. Inside this locked down facility, danger lurks around every corner. From Nazis and serial killers, to mutants and aliens, no one is safe inside these walls.”
The second episode of the season is on tonight which is beyond exciting. The set ups of the stories just from the first episode were intriguing I can only imagine how they will keep it up/top last season.
If Season 2 is as good as Season 1 I cannot even wait for Season 3 so lets all keep our fingers crossed there will be one because my life would be incomplete if there isn’t.

Two Lovers

Two Lovers

Two Lovers

I was desperate for a new movie to watch on Saturday when I was being lazy and after trying to rent One Day which was unavailable repeatedly through any website I tried and refused to purchase it I went looking for a new movie and stumbled upon Two Lovers! I am generally down with any movie Gweneth Paltrow is in and Joaquin Phoenix brings his normal level of randomness to the character. I really appreciated the honesty and truth the movie represented. I’m not saying it was the best movie ever but it was so real. Completely normal situations with completely normal people, which in the movie both were portrayed as “fucked up” but no more so then any other person which is what I really liked about it. The movies ending is what really got me. I won’t ruin it but the honesty of the ending was what made me acutally love the movie because I can be sure this happens more often then we want to admit.

Small Town Security

Small Town Security

Small Town Security

If you have never seen this show I think you should immediately. I am not saying to watch it because it is good, it is funny but no everyone needs to be disturbed like this once in a while. This show is on the Twin Peaks odd level status. I was convinced the show was a farce the likes of  Reno 911 but from what I have read so far it seems to be real which makes Small Town Security All the more difficult for me to stomach.
The story is that this small town security company, JJK Security, run by Joan Koplan in Ringgold, Georgia is reality TV worthy because of all of the employees quirks and the nature of their jobs. My favorite character has to be Lambchop, Joan’s 14 year old chihuahua who is constantly humping Joan’s leg or being terroristic.
Joan’s husband Irwin usually looks like he has a tupee on but I can never tell because his hair changes between different variations of grey and red in different area’s of his head. It is confusing. He also seems to not really care much about anything at all ever.
Then there is Dennis Croft who is a transgendered female who is living as a male and in love with Joan. Which is the disturbing part because Dennis could get a way younger and hotter lady! Dennis is literally Joan’s bitch (everyone seems to be Joan’s bitch). I am not really sure I understand the relationship other than it seems to be some sort of odd kind of Stockholm Syndrome.
Christa Stephens is supposed to be the secretary but I have no idea what she does really besides BS with Joan. She is some what funny but I have no idea how she can stand it there with that group of crazies.
Lastly there is Brian Taylor who does something but I never see what that is. besides answer the phones that Christa apparently doesn’t. He is always behind a desk mostly hidden by the mess that is the office.
I at first wasn’t sure if I would continue to watch but you can’t not. Each character gets weirder and weirder. The more you learn about these people the less you can believe this is unscripted. I still have a hard time believing someone didn’t make this up but if they did I have to think they are some sad sick individuals to come up with this.
If you haven’t caught Small Town Security yet please do and please let me know how your life has forever been changed because life as you know it will most definitely be different after you watch this show. I promise!

Hollywood Exes

Hollywood-Exes

Hollywood-Exes

I of course was really excited to see Hollywood Exes once I saw the commercial for Hollywood Exes. I was convinced this would be the best smut I have ever seen. The list of wives was phenomenal: Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife, Will Smiths first wife, R. Kelly’s ex-wife, Prince’s first wife, and Jose Canseco’s ex-wife. I was expecting insane drama and childishness but I was pleasantly surprised that these ladies are the epitome of classy reality TV. These are some famous ex-wives that have some high profile exes. I find it difficult to believe the other less famous reality wives have so much more drama but I will say I appreciate the change.   I will say maybe the show is cut in a way that drama isn’t shown but I can’t get enough of the fact that these women are supportive and honest with each other.   I see no real cattiness not back stabbing or even revenge.  It is a shock to me.  I don’t want to see it from these women either which I can’t say about the other shows.  I have the respect for these exes for showing that all women aren’t the same as what we see on television constantly. I don’t know what will happen as the season progresses but so far I am excited to see a show about women who have particular struggles and have a decent support system to help them through it. Yes, they may be super rich and have a little fame of their own but people are people. We can all be hurt, we can all have difficult times no matter how much money or fame we have. I can only hope maybe more reality shows follow suit and show the non-Jerry Springer like side of reality TV. I understand that reality TV isn’t always so real but never the less Hollywood Exes is on my list of new fave shows and can only hope they continue to take the high road.
Maybe this can even help groups of women in real life learn to be more supportive of each other. We as women know what it is like to have those friends that we know are our friends to our face but we can never be 100% sure what they say behind our backs. It is a sad but the true cost of being a woman. I am not basing real life on this show but I think it is a positive step in perhaps a more responsible reality television outline.

Magic Mike

Magic Mike

Magic Mike

I finally saw Magic Mike over the weekend and ohh let me tell you was it sweet. I know some people were complaining about the acting or the story but really, did anyone really expect one? Is that at all why you went to see it? I was genuinely hoping to have no words and just pleasant dancing from Channing. I could care less about anyone else to be honest. Besides Channings otherworldly good looks his dancing is mesmerizing and I don’t even mean when he is in a g-string. We are one lucky world to be blessed with a man of that caliber.
I could have done without Matthew McConaughey. His body is amazing and he is good looking but the constant “All Right All Right All Right” kept reminding me of Dazed and Confused. I don’t really have a need to see him in a thong either to be honest. Plus I have a hard time getting passed the rumors of his manly odor.
Alex Pettyfer plays a douche which from what I have been told is perfect since he is a huge one in real life. He was the newbie that partied too hard and got into trouble blahblahblahblah. I really didn’t care about him other than most of his scenes were with Channing.
I was sad Joe Manganiello barely had any speaking parts and he really didn’t do much dancing along with that dude from CSI which I was sad about but if they had to be sacrificed to show me more of Channing then so be it! I will not complain.
The “leading lady” not Olivia Munn wasn’t very cute either. I cannot tell if I am happy about that. I do love imagining Channing with someone who doesn’t match him in perfection but I also like the idea of seeing two incredibly hot peeps getting together for my own personal pleasure.
Either way I had a good time watching it. Hot Channing is enough to get me to go to the movies because I hate going and I don’t care what anyone says that movie was glorious.

The Forsyte Saga

The Forsyte Saga

The Forsyte Saga

The Forsyte Saga Episode 1 The Forsyte Saga is my new favorite show. It seems to be a mini-series as far as I can tell but I am in love with it, and I cannot wait to read the book! You know me and my British obsession. The Forsyte Saga has everything I love, tragedy, forbidden love, intense romance, hatred, scandal and the properness of uptight rich gentlemen and ladies. It really can’t get any better for me I don’t think. I really must thank Netflix for knowing me so well and always showing me their British television selections to make sure I never miss another good English drama again for as long as I live.  I know The Forsyte Saga isn’t the stuff reality tv dreams are made of but the drama and romance in British novels are even more vivid once made in to shows, for me anyway. I would choose these stories over Jerseylicious any day. When they love it is immediate and intense in which both parties are willing to face ruin, poverty, and even sometimes death for the one they love all with out ever being taken out on a date or receiving a gift from  Louis Vuitton. These are the relationships I fantasize about and go figure a juice head gorilla doesn’t even factor into the equation. Not to say the characters in all of the English novels are gems but there was a certain reserve and eloquence to everyone. They still wanted to appear to be refined, unlike most characters of late.  I know you might think The Forsyte Saga will bore you to tears but watch just one episode and a guarantee you will be hooked!

Girls, If You Don’t Love It I Don’t Love You

Girls

Girls

The series premier was amazeballs! If you haven’t seen this show you have to now! It was hilarious. It’s like a version of Sex in the City minus everyone being rich. There are actually unattractive and not so fashion forward people on it. Almost like real life.
I may be drawn to it as well because it reminds me of my years in the city which were some of the best years of my life. The trials and tribulations of pretending to be an adult but still depending on your parents. I cannot wait to see what this show will bring. I am hoping it doesn’t disappoint but generally when Judd Apatow is involved they don’t.
