One of my favorite places to eat near the office is Grand Lux Cafe. My most favorite friend introduced me to it years ago when I was still eating chicken because of their Buffalo Chicken Rolls (which is one of my favorite things on the planet) We would go semi-regularly for girls night or lunches. The space is beautiful and the service is always wonderful and it is always hoppin. All of the times we have been we have yet to try Grand Lux brunch which I personally have always heard yummy things about.
During birthday week my friend and I finally decided to make it happen. This was the best decision we have made to date. The photo above is of our beyond delish brunch!! We shared the chicken and waffles (Yes, I felt super bad about eating little chickies but I have been craving chicken especially fried chicken for months and months so I finally gave in and had 2 pieces) and the red velvet pancakes. I cannot tell you how amazing both were!!!
The red velvet pancakes had chocolate chips in them and was served with cream cheese frosting! The frosting melted because the pancakes were so warm which made it like an even awesomer version of syrup. We dipped the chicken from the chicken and waffles in it! I personally could have done without the chocolate chips but not because they made the dish any less amazing just because I wanted to enjoy the pancakes and cream cheese by themselves. They did add a richness to the pancakes which was nice. I don’t always see what the big deal with red velvet is mostly because not everyone can really make it well but Grand Lux hit the nail on the head. I have wanted to go back and eat it every day since.
The fried chicken and waffles was soooo what I wanted! I could have done with out the pecans from the pecan honey-butter sauce but that is only because nuts in certain foods weird me out. I didn’t read the whole description when I ordered because I was too excited otherwise I might have asked to exclude them from my waffles. They were small and not in the way. The only thing I would have done differently was get a side of the cream cheese frosting to go with it. The syrup was delish but with the thickness of the waffle, which by the way tasted fabulous, and the crust on the chicken something thicker and creamier like the cream cheese frosting made the sweetness all the better. The chicken was the perfect size with perfect crunch and juicy. I felt terribly guilty about eating chicken so I only indulged in two pieces but I wanted to eat them all.
We have decided on our next trip to try one of each cocktail because we didn’t have even have a single drink the last time. We must eat the caramel banana-nut french toast as well as the banana pecan pancakes and probably the breakfast beignets!
I should say I am generally not a breakfast food fan either. I didn’t start really eating breakfast foods until I was an adult on my own going to brunch. I might have had some breakfasty foods here and there at diners late night or for snacks but I was never into the breakfast for breakfast scene. For me to want breakfast foods and go again to a place for them is a big deal! So I urge you to make your way to a Grand Lux ASAP and indulge. You do not want to miss out on what may be the yummiest brunch ever!!!
