Everyone I know has been trying to stick with their New Years Resolution and the thing I keep hearing from everyone is My Fitness Pal is the way to go. I have tried a million different diets, Weight Watchers, gym classes, trainers, calorie counting, cleanses, you name it. Now I admit dedication and motivation is my problem. I have no real excuse but after spending money on all of these other things it is nice to see something that is free and easy to use.
All you have to do is download the free App or use it online and start entering in your information and goals. Then you are given your calorie allotment for the day according to your height, weight and goals you want to reach. Once you are set up you can even link to your Facebook account. Then start entering in your food for the day. What I appreciated was that there was an endless amount of options for food so when you eat out the odds that your meal can be found and accurate is extremely likely. The program is beyond user friendly, anyone can get the hang of it. When you do things like work out you get updates on how much weight you would lose if you did that same activity for the next certain amount of weeks, for example I did a 15 minute Zumba work out (as I was pressed for time) and once I entered it in to My Fitness Pal I received an update saying if I did that for the next 5 weeks I would reach a particular weight.
I am actually having fun with My Fitness Pal. I feel I can be more accurate than I ever was with Weight Watchers or counting on my own. I can see the calories I’ve used after each meal, the amount left, how many achievements I have made and how much closer to reaching my goal I am. There are graphs of your calorie breakdowns by carbs, fat and protein, nutrient details, your progress, you can set reminders, find your friends that are using My Fitness Pal for support and be interactive.
I feel like I am back on track honestly, the slow track but it is still a track. I have been slacking here and there as per my usual routine but I am really loving this app. It makes a difference that most people I know are using it which is encouraging. You can do group weight loss goals using the app in the office or even get competitive with friends and family if that helps.
My Fitness Pal relieves your guilt but doesn’t lie to you. You are held accountable for your actions and can see the consequences. There is nothing but encouragement and all free of charge. You literally get out of it what you put in and that is better than any meal plan, trainer or gym you spend money, time and sanity on.
