Candy Corn Cheesecake, In My Mouth

Candy Corn Cheesecake

Candy Corn Cheesecake

Tablespoon is at it again with one of my most fave fall candy’s turned into an amazing looking dessert. I refuse to bake it because I am certain I will eat all of it in one sitting so I have asked my father to do it and only give me a few slices to take home while he hides or eats the rest before I get there. The fall is a great time of year for delish foods and super fun. You can practice for the Holidays or re-vamp some traditional ones. Either way anytime I can mix two things that are naturally delicious I am all over it! My round behind perhaps is not.

Ingredients:

CRUST
2 Cups graham crackers, crushed
2 Tablespoons sugar
1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon
6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 Pinch salt

FILLING
32 Ounces cream cheese
1 1/3 Cups sugar
2 Teaspoons vanilla extract
1 Cup sour cream
1 Cup heavy cream
4 Large eggs
1 Pinch salt
Red food coloring
Yellow food coloring
Candy corns, for decoration

Directions:
1. For crust, pulse graham crackers in a food processor until they are ground.
2. Then stir in with sugar, cinnamon, a pinch of salt and melted butter.
3. Find a plastic cup and a slightly larger plastic bowl or container that you can cut apart.
4. Set the containers in your springform pan before you add your crust to the pan. Don’t cut out the bottoms yet though for the cup and bowl.
5. Make filling by adding cream cheese and sugar to a stand mixer (or use a hand mixer). Beat the cream cheese until it is light and fluffy.
6. Add in eggs one at a time, followed by sour cream and heavy cream. Then add the vanilla and pinch of salt.
7. Pour filling into your pan without the crust and divide it evenly between the center cup, the middle layer, and outer layer. This is just to make sure you have the correct amount of filling for each layer.
8. Remove the layers and keep the amount of filling separate for each part.
9. Leave the center layer (in the cup) white. Color the filling that is in the middle layer (bowl) with mostly yellow, but a few drops of red until it reaches a deep orange color. Color the outer filling with just yellow. You’ll need a lot of yellow to get a really rich color.
10. Clean out your springform pan now, dry it well, and press your crust into the bottom of the pan. Bake it at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Then let it cool.
11. Now take your plastic cup and bowl and cut the bottoms out of each. Set them on your cooled crust.
12. Pour the layers into each section. White in the very center, orange in middle, yellow on the outside. Since you already measured the layers, they should be perfect.
13. Remove the dividers in each layer being careful to scrape down the sides of each divider. Then spread out the filling to it’s even. Try not to mix the colors though.
14. Wrap the springform pan tightly in foil and bake the cake in a steaming water batch for 90 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
15. Check it and if the cake isn’t mostly firm then bake it for another 20 minutes.
16. When cake is firm, turn off oven heat, and slightly crack the oven door. Let the cheesecake cool slowly in the oven for one hour.
17. Remove cheesecake and let cool at room temperature, then chill for 30 minutes.
18. Remove springform pan and decorate with candy corn

Closet Monsters

Closet Monsters

This is my favorite time of year and very clearly my favorite holiday! I love decorating for Halloween! There are soo many fun things you and your family can do to spook up your home simply and inexpensively with things you have lying around the house. Creepy Closet Monsters are the perfect way to decorate and get some use out of the wire hangers you might have lying around at home. If you like this craft enough you can do this for other holidays and even make some for every day. You know I would craft the crap outta these hangers to make mine all fancy schmance! Why not make your closet customized instead of having to buy hangers when you get plenty from the dry cleaners. You can even reinforce the wire hangers while decorating so they can last longer/hold heavier clothes.

Materials:
Wire Hangers
construction paper
fabric
ribbons
glitter
stickers
poster board
Card Stock
Tacky Glue
Tape
Any possible decorations you have lying around.

Instructions:

1. For each hanger, trace the body of a hanger onto the poster board
2. Cut out the shape of the hanger
3. Cut facial features, designs, decorations from poster board and card stock, adhering them to the base shape with tacky glue.
4. Let the glue dry, then tape the poster board face or design to the hanger.

Batty Bites

I love this time of year and I know I have mentioned how much I love Halloween. I found this super adorbs simple party fun recipe on All You Magazine. These are the kind of appetizers that everyone will enjoy and you won’t have to spend forever trying to get them right! I also like that they are simple enough to incorporate into other holidays. Add some fun shaped pretzels/crackers/treats and make them reindeer antlers or make a top hat and it can be a leprechaun! You can play with the cheeses and use different colored sesame seeds, nuts, cracker or chip crumbs to compliment the cheese ball. You can also make monster bites or witches maybe vampires and ghosts! Soo much fun! Get creative!

1 (4 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
8 ounces soft, mild goat cheese, at room temperature

Striiv The Most Fun Pedometer Ever

Striiv Smart Pedometer was just recently introduced to me by one of my besties. I have used pedometers before or Apps for tracking activity/health and after a while I was just plain bored. I don’t have the time or patience to do all of that and get disappointed when I don’t see any success.
Striiv is genius because you are given attainable challenges to reach during the day. Every challenge you complete gives you points, positive reinforcement and then prizes of sorts. I am currently addicted which is kind of really great. The incentive program really does almost force you to keep active because the more challenges you win the more likely you are to win something. So far I have gotten Amazon.com MP3 downloads and 50% off of JewelMint and I have only been using this App for 2 days. I probably look like an idiot at the office because I am standing and stomping around all day but I don’t care anything to keep me more active then I have currently been is find by me.
You can also purchase Striiv Play Wireless Smart Pedometer if you don’t want to carry your phone around everywhere. I actually downloaded this App a week earlier but I kept forgetting to walk around with my phone and sometimes I really have nowhere to put it. The Striiv Play Wireless Smart Pedometer is a great more convenient way to track your activity without needing your phone.
The only thing I don’t love about Striiv at the moment is it is only iPhone or Apple compatible which is kind of sad because I cannot share the fun with all of my friends. I have a few friends on there now. I get so pumped when I see they have taken more steps than I have. What can a girl do but go out of her way to beat her friends in steps.
You can get a Striiv of your very own either at Amazon.com or Best Buy

Jack-O-Lantern Sweet Potato Fries

Jack-o-Lantern Sweet Potato Fries

Jack-o-Lantern Sweet Potato Fries

This is an extremely fun and quick recipe to add some holiday to your dinner. Jack-O-Lantern fries are a better alternative than using regular potatoes. I have made these before just not in shapes and the dipping sauce is delish. I get excited when I find fun themed foods that aren’t difficult to make because I am not all that good with a knife. I cut myself more effectively than any food.

Ingredients:
2 large sweet potatoes
1/4 cup olive oil or canola oil
1tspBrown Sugar (to taste)
2 tsp Cinnamon (to taste)
1tbsp Honey
2 tbsp Butter (I use Brummel & Brown it is a yogurt substitute)

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C)
2. Peel the skin from both sweet potatoes and slice the tips off.
3. Slice the sweet potato in 1/8″ thin slices. Use a small sharp knife to “carve” jack-o-lantern faces into each sweet potato.
4. Mix the a spice recipe and 1/4 cup oil in a bowl, then carefully toss jack-o-lanterns faces in seasoning/oil mixture till coated.
5. Place the sweet potato fries side by side on a cookie sheet and bake in preheated oven for 20-22 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges. Some may get slightly black on edges but that only adds to the flavor. Just don’t let them get to blackened.
6. While potatoes are cooking melt the Brummel and Brown slowly in a pot and add cinnamon, canola oil (less than a teaspoon), honey and brown sugar and stir until everything has melted. Once the sugar and honey have melted completely and sauce has thickened. take the mixture off the stove to cool.
7. When all of the fries are finished let cool and serve with dipping sauce and enjoy!

American Horror Story Asylum!

American Horror Story Asylum

American Horror Story Asylum

American Horror Story Season 1 was amazing! I didn’t completely get it at first but the ending was spectacular. I understand this is the kind of show you either love or hate but I sure do love it.
Now that Season 2 has begun I can’t help but hope it is going to be amazingly awesomer than Season 1. I love that Jessica Lange, Zachary Quinto and my super crush Evan Peters are back. I could do with out Adam Levine but I get why he is on there, lest we forget Chloe Sevigny who never fails to be odd and creepy in the sexiest ways ever. I also appreciate the addition of Clea Duvall and Sarah Paulson perhaps lesser known actresses but ones I favor.
The description of the new season is soo creepy no one but FX could say it better:
“Set in 1964, American Horror Story: Asylum takes us into a Church-run haven for the criminally insane, ruled with an iron fist by Sister Jude, a nun with a troubled past. Inside this locked down facility, danger lurks around every corner. From Nazis and serial killers, to mutants and aliens, no one is safe inside these walls.”
The second episode of the season is on tonight which is beyond exciting. The set ups of the stories just from the first episode were intriguing I can only imagine how they will keep it up/top last season.
If Season 2 is as good as Season 1 I cannot even wait for Season 3 so lets all keep our fingers crossed there will be one because my life would be incomplete if there isn’t.

Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern Bell Peppers

Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern Bell Peppers

Stuffed Jack-O-Lantern Bell Peppers

Stuffed peppers are one of my favorite meals from my childhood. My mother made the best ones I have ever tasted. I still to this day cannot perfect mine. One thing she didn’t do was make them in to Jack-O-Lanterns!!! Halloween is one of my fave things and so are stuffed peppers so it is only fitting that the 2 should be combined.

Ingredients:
6 medium size bell peppers, any color
1 lb. lean ground chicken
1/2 lb. ground turkey
3 slices diced turkey bacon, uncooked
1 small onion, chopped
2 large carrots (or baby carrots)
12 oz. tomato sauce (a sweet-ish flavor)
1 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 cup cooked white rice or brown

Instructions:
1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2.Grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
3.Combine the ground chicken, ground turkey, bacon, onion, tomato sauce, grated carrot, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
4.Mix in cooked rice (please remember to cook the rice…it is a sad situation if you don’t)
5.Wash the peppers
6. Cut jack-o’-lantern faces into the peppers with a sharp paring knife, making triangle eyes and noses, and pointy-teeth smiles. (you can make any design you want)
7. Slice off the tops of the peppers, and scoop out the seeds and cores.
8. Stuff the peppers lightly with the stuffing mixture
9. Place them into the prepared baking dish so they lean against each other.
10. Bake in the preheated oven until the peppers are tender and the stuffing is cooked through and juicy (about 1 hour depending on pepper sizes and how much you stuffed).

You can opt to stuff peppers with vegetarian meat options or vegetables. You can even put dips in them as long as the dip isn’t very runny but if it does happen to ooze out of the jack-o-lantern all the more creepy right??

Not So Horrifying Halloween Movies

Perhaps I am going Hallow-movie crazy but can you blame me! It is almost here!!! I love this time of year, the weather and being scared out of my socks! I know everyone doesn’t feel that way so here are some festive flicks that won’t make you pee your pants!

The Covenant Hello hot guys! It may not be Edward or Jacob but who cares! This may not be the best movie ever but I happened to really like it.  Its a good story about some old school witches/warlocks in New England and the slew of hot young men make up for any lack of story, plot or acting ability.

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch is more well known I am sure after the television show and cartoon came out but this originally was a movie that I think was on Disney.  This was one of my favorite movies when I was growing up.  It is light hearted and probably much like other child-friendly Halloween movies but what ever Meliss

The Addams FamilyAwesomely the awesomest awesome ever! Both Addams Family movies are excellent I don’t care what anyone says. They are perfect and I can watch them over and over. Christina Ricci come one! You will see she is on another one of my Halloween fave lists!

The Witches (Keep Case Packaging)I’m not going to lie when I saw this in theaters as a kid I made my mom and I leave because it totally scared me lol but as an adult and after the high quality of movies now this movie isn’t soo bad lol. I feel like people forget about this movie all of the time!

Teen WitchThis isn’t soo completely Halloween but it is cute funny and always made me wish to be a witch. This is a definite family night movie or a girls night movie because it is really more about the girl getting the guy but whatever still super cute.

Beetlejuice (20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition)Oh Tim Burton how I swoon over thee!! Tim is the king of all things awesomely odd and creepy so thumbs up to this seriously classic movie! I know this is on every Halloween movie list there can be but that is because it should be!

Practical MagicI love this movie! Not only would I die to be as hot as both Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman this movie has all of the right components to make ladies swoon. So what if this is a chick flick! It has hot ladies so guys and even little guys should be interested! The music is dreamy as well which adds to the awesomeness of this movie.

The Craft (Special Edition)This movie is for the older crowd but still not so scary. It is the epitome of 90′s awesomeness with a little thrill but nothing too scary. There are some adult themes but young teens through adults can totally enjoy this and the soundtrack is still pretty aweome (to me anyway lol)

Sleepy HollowI have a crush on Johnny Depp so I can’t help but love movies he is in especially if they are scary. The spooky imagery and this classic tale make for a spooky movie but not too spooky to scare anyone too badly.

Once Bittenis a little sexy but still super funny. Hello Jim Carrey!! It has some sex and hot folks but most of all it has tons of humor! Super awesome movie and showcases Jim Carrey with what he does best! You have to see this.

10 Classic Kids Halloween Movies

I wanted to share some movies that are near and dear to my heart. These Halloween picks aren’t really that scary but they remind me of good Halloween times from my childhood and since I love Halloween soo much I am hoping they can help start you on some new awesome Halloween Traditions.

Monster House (Widescreen Edition)This is a fairly new Halloween movie but I totes like it. It is funny, teaches a lesson and is animated quite well. I think for a family night or party this movie is the perfect answer. Oh and did I mention Steve Bucemi, now you have to watch it!

Nightmare Before Christmas (+ DVD) [Blu-ray]This is one of my all time favorite movies ever and I know it is alot of other peoples as well. This movie is awesome for Halloween and Christmas (for me year round but whatever). When I see Nightmare Before Christmas anything I generally purchase it because I feel somewhere deep down inside that I NEED it in order to survive.

Ghostbusters Let’s talk about a classic shall we! This movie is not only an awesome Halloween movie but a hilarious comedy for all year round! Even the second one rocked! If you are a fan of Halloween this movie will never get old! If you haven’t seen it you should be ashamed of yourself and rent it on Amazon Instant for $2.99 right now!

Return to OzNot too many have heard of or seen this but I love it. It is a little odd at parts but so very good. I watch it often. I have to admit I was a fan of the first one. Return to Oz I liked sooo much better.

Casper (Widescreen Special Edition) This movie was just plain cute I think. I love it still. My favorite part was the house. I swear one day I will own a house that looks that cool I promise. This movie is funny and sweet. You and your kids will heart it!

Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride (Widescreen Edition)This obviously isn’t a movie from my childhood but I love it like I am one. I may be biased because Tim Burton never does me wrong but this movie is soo sweet and Johnny Depp wins hands down in anything. This movie shows that creepy and crawly isn’t as bad as it always seems. There is a good lesson in there too for kids! The visuals get me everytime. I love it!

The Monster Squad (Two-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition)This may be a little scary for little ones but it is soo good. A definite classic for any child on Halloween. This is a good movie for parties or family night so that everyone can enjoy it and totally learn to love classic scary movies.

Hocus PocusThis was before SJP was soo fashion forward! This movie is definitely a classic and has Bette Midler come one! It isn’t scary and has good humor which is awesome for fun family nights or Halloween parties!

The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (Disney Gold Classic Collection)I am a Disney obsessed individual as it is so the first time I saw The Adventures of Ichabod I think I watched it for days in a row after that. I watch it at the very least once a year during the fall.

The Worst WitchThe Worst was a movie my mother and I watched all of the time. It was definitely a Halloween favorite, not scary but soo good and worth the watch especially if you aren’t aren’t someone who likes to get scared.

My Top 10 Fave Halloween Movies

Halloween is my super fave holiday ever. I love scary movies and any thing to do with being haunted (even though I think my house is haunted and it scares the crap out of me). I wanted to share some movies that are near and dear to my heart. Some aren’t really that scary but they remind me of good Halloween times which is always a plus.

Psycho (50th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]Psycho is the reason I have a clear shower curtain in my bathroom at home and why at hotels I leave the curtain open a little so I can check to see if anyone is coming to stab me. I love every one of the Psycho installments dearly.

The Lost BoysBlah, blah, blah predictable blah blah. I do not care. The Lost boys has super hot bad ass boys and although the movie isn’t scary these were the men that made you want to get bitten long before Edward did.

House of 1,000 Corpses I know everyone didn’t love this movie but I did. Rob Zombie knows how to gore it up and he does just that in this. This movie is creepy and you cross your fingers you never run into those people ever because the thought is too scary.

The Devil’s Rejects
I know this isn’t a favorite of many but I love Rob Zombie and this movie has super gore and kind of what you would expect for the sequel to House of 1,000 Corpses. Maybe not amazing story or plot but you will be grosses out by the mega violence and gore!!

SawI know you are thinking “How typical” but I only prefer the first 2 or 3 out of all of them. There is only so much I can deal with.

Paranormal Activity OK, this is obviously not from my childhood but movies like this get me every time. It reminded me of Blair Witch which is a movie I have seen twice and will never watch again because at the age of 18 I saw that movie on two separate occasions and had to sleep with mymom for almost 6 months after that as well as still having an issue with basement but paranormal activity gave me that feeling once again but thank goodness my scared feelings wore off in less time.

Children of the CornOnly the first few of these are really good because after that it gets a little lame but I loved these movies and still to this day am creeped out by corn fields and large groups of children.

Sleepaway Camp: Survival KitI used to watch these with one of my oldest friends while we were in elementary school or maybe middle school. We rented them probably 100 times or more from our local small video rental store, that is how long I have been watching it. I don’t even think places like Blockbuster even existed then. The Sleepaway Camp movies are gory and unexpected but great to watch.

Scream SetThis set isn’t all that scary but when the first one came out i watched it over and over again. I loved the characters (incredibly 90′s) and they were really just funny. These will forever have a place in my heart.

Nightmare on Elm Street Collectionis my all time favorite! I can watch them over and over again with the exception of the second one which is soo horrible I can never sit through the full movie. I have watched every of them (NOT 2) SOO
