Why Do We Pay For Services We Don’t Get?

Why Do We Pay For Services We Don't Get?

Recently I have been noticing more then before how horrible many of the services we depend on are. The services can be quite costly but generally never live up to expectations. The public expects service to be poor, customer service to be impossible and equipment to only last for a short amount of time.
Almost everyone has at least one cellphone plan, cable service and Internet providers who to be honest are the crux of our existence at this point. We need all of those things to keep current, if you care about that sort of thing. If you own a business, have a job or blog you need instant access to information constantly and often at a moments notice. What has been happening to me lately is that when I actually NEED to access one of the 3 the services decides to be unavailable. I know this has happened to everyone at some point. You try to get the Internet to search for something and your computer takes forever to load. Your phone lights up and you see you have missed calls and texts even though you just checked your phone 2 seconds ago and there was nothing. What about when you are trying to access your on demand and the service is not available at this time after you have been trying to catch up on your favorite show?
I can recall having issues with all 3 ever since their beginnings. What I notice now is that customer service is beyond unhelpful, many more loop holes to “screw” the customer have been developed and you have to buy or trade in your equipment after a year but your contract is up in 2 when you know after the first 6 or 8 months is when it starts crapping out.
Why do we spend all of this money on Android’s or iPhones, DVR’s/Cable boxes, full cable packages, high speed Internet, Mac’s, iPads and the like to have to wait until the services feel like working? I have on different occasions through the years called up these companies separately and said “You didn’t work on this date for this amount of time” and so on to tell them I shouldn’t be billed for it since their service wasn’t working. I have been told repeatedly that it was either my fault or I was in an area that didn’t have service or it was a glitch when they were doing updates. I can understand that happening once in a while but regularly? Is this why wait times for customer service are always so long? Is this the reason they make it impossible for customer service to be helpful? I feel like these monopolies are in cahoots with each other. They know we are stuck and in need of these services and must have them.  The real issue  is a matter of what we are willing to put up with. We have to have the service so they know we are going to pay. I feel like at this point when these services have been around for so long we shouldn’t be paying so much. I am thoroughly frustrated and have called and complained on multiple occasions. I have sought out new services but then after each conversation have realized they are all just as bad. You may get a decent promo here and there but the longer you have the service the more money you are charged. Remember when loyalty meant something? If you were loyal you got the best deals and pricing? I guess that doesn’t matter now, since everyone NEEDS a cellphone, cable and Internet.
I would like for us to be able to stand up to these companies to improve their services and prices. We deserve it! If it weren’t for us they wouldn’t exist! I say we teach them a lesson and find an alternative to their snake oily ways so they can see what it is like!
